Information For Adults
Wannabe is run as part of the Youth Outreach Project at St Christopher’s
Church, Holme Wood. It was set up by a group of parents working with the
Vicar of St Christopher’s in 2001 who started things off with a ‘Summer Week’ of
activities in drama, dance and music. From this the weekly Saturday club began.
Wannabe now works with between 35 and 45 young people each week from the
local area, it has produced three high quality shows which sold out 2 evening
performances each. The young people wrote the story and script for the latest
show themselves and co-wrote the music to the second show. Wannabe
is now co-ordinated by Andy Sykes, the Youth Project worker, along with the team
of tutors and volunteers. Any enquiries about the Project or Wannabe
should be directed to him through the ‘Contact’ page.
Wannabe aims to give young people in Holme Wood the opportunity to
explore their creativity, to learn new skills and develop other skills and to
have a good time working with their peers in groups. Over time we have
seen young people develop their abilities and skills in performing arts
and the confidence of many young people increase through interaction
with friends and what they achieve together.
Wannabe is able to operate because of the generosity of our funders.
The Club started up with a grant from ‘Parents in the Community’ and
is now supported by a very generous grant from ‘Children In Need’.
We are grateful to them for the support they give us. This money enables
us to pay the Tutors who teach the drama, dance and music, enabling us
to maintain a very high standard of activity, as well as pay for the rooms,
co-ordination and costs of putting on shows.
